“Bang—” A stone struck the windshield dead center.
“Screech—” Qiao Jing jerked the steering wheel hard, her car spinning out of control towards the guardrail.
“Thud!” The guardrail gave way, and the car, propelled by inertia, tumbled down the slope.
“Qiao Jing!” Zhan Qipei lost control of his emotions and ran over like a shot.
“Sister Jing!” Xu Moqian shouted loudly, his face pale with panic as he hurried over.
Zhan Qipei grabbed the guardrail, leaned to the side, and with a long stride, vaulted over it.
Upon reaching the car, gasoline flowed out in a gush; the car, upside down and wedged in place, showed Qiao Jing, through the shattered window, slumped over the steering wheel.
“Qiao Jing! Wake up!”
“Qiao Jing!!!”
Who was calling her?
Qiao Jing slowly opened her eyes, struggled up from the steering wheel, and squinted through her weak eyes out the window, making out a vaguely familiar face.
After focusing hard, she barely recognized it was Zhan Qipei.
Why was he here?

How could he have appeared here?
Before she could figure it out, she saw the man reach out for the door handle, pulling frantically.
Seeing this, Qiao Jing was somewhat baffled. Why was he trying so desperately to save her? Wouldn’t her death simply put an end to their relationship sooner?
Zhan Qipei continued to tug at the car door with gritted teeth, and with a “click,” it finally opened.
The car was filled with a strong scent of blood.
With no time to spare, Zhan Qipei first unbuckled Qiao Jing’s seat belt, then carried her out from the inside.
After he brought her out, he realized Qiao Jing’s forehead was cut open, bleeding; as for other injuries on her body, it was still too early to tell.
“Thank you…” Her voice was faint as a mosquito, weak to the extreme.
“Don’t talk, close your eyes and rest!” Zhan Qipei said firmly.
If you listened carefully, there was a slight tremor and a hint of heartache in the man’s voice.
Of course, in Qiao Jing’s current state, she was unable to detect anything.
Following the man’s instructions, Qiao Jing closed her eyes, and within two seconds, she slipped into unconsciousness.
“How is she?” Xu Moqian ran over, anxious as ants on a hot pan seeing Qiao Jing still bleeding from her forehead.
“Give her to me first!” Xu Moqian reached out to snatch Qiao Jing from Zhan Qipei’s arms.
Zhan Qipei stepped aside, holding Qiao Jing as he got into the car.
“Hey, I’m saying, give her—” Xu Moqian’s words were cut off by Lu Zijiao.
“This isn’t the time for jealousy, we should rush her to the hospital!”
Xu Moqian, watching Zhan Qipei holding Qiao Jing, gritted his teeth and got into the passenger seat.
On the way to the hospital, Zhan Qipei held Qiao Jing the entire time, his tightly knit brows full of insuppressible worry and urgency.
Fortunately, once at the hospital and the examination results came back, revealing only minor external injuries, Zhan Qipei’s hanging heart finally settled.
“Phew—” Xu Moqian collapsed into a chair, wiping the sweat from his forehead with his hand.
“Glad Sister Jing’s okay. Otherwise, I’d be history. And with Grandpa… If he found out I took her street racing and then there was a crash, my god! I’d be skinned alive!”
Lu Zijiao glanced at Xu Moqian and shook his head; was he so frightened that he was out of his mind, uttering nonsense? A sinner for all eternity? What was he even talking about?
“Young Master Zhan, it’s getting late. You should head back now. Qiao Jing has dedicated care here; there won’t be any trouble.”
“You go back,” Zhan Qipei said and then pushed open the door of the ward, walked in, and sat down in a chair beside the bed, quietly observing Qiao Jing.
The girl lay still on the bed, her face pale and pitiable, tugging at the heartstrings.
Xu Moqian also entered the room and whispered to Zhan Qipei, “You go back. I’ll watch over her.”
Zhan Qipei glanced sideways at Xu Moqian with a brief, “Get out.”
“What did you say? I should leave? Why should I be the one to go?”
Zhan Qipei suppressed the darkness in his eyes, which were as deep as the night, and spoke straightforwardly to Xu Moqian, his thin lips parting slightly, his tone cold.
“Because I am her husband!”
“You—” Xu Moqian, blocked by the response, opened his mouth wide, unable to find any words to follow his initial “you” for quite some time.
Lu Zijiao, nursing a headache, walked in and positioned himself between the two.
“Look Young Master Xu, keep your voice down, Qiao Jing needs to rest. You should head back for now; Young Master Zhan is here, and that’s enough. Besides, Young Master Zhan has been living almost every day with Qiao Jing, if there was anything amiss, why would it only come up today?”
Upon hearing this reasoning, and seeing Zhan Qipei had no intention of backing down, Xu Moqian realized that continuing to make a scene would only affect Qiao Jing.
With this in mind, Xu Moqian reluctantly took a step back, but not without a warning glance at Zhan Qipei, “You better not take advantage of her, or else I won’t let you off!”
Zhan Qipei didn’t spare Xu Moqian an extra glance, continuing to watch the sleeping Qiao Jing.
He watched her, all through the night.
It wasn’t until the sky gradually turned pale with the coming dawn that Zhan Qipei, unable to hold out any longer, closed his eyes and dozed off beside the bed.
The sun climbed up the branches, and golden sunlight filtered through the glass and onto the bed, gradually warming up the room.
Qiao Jing slowly opened her eyes, smelled the antiseptic in the air, and recalling the previous night’s events, guessed that she must have been taken to the hospital.
Qiao Jing lifted the covers, ready to get up, when she saw Zhan Qipei sleeping beside her.
What is he doing here?
Seeing the dark circles under his eyes and his exhausted appearance, Qiao Jing’s brows furrowed.
He couldn’t have stayed with her all night, could he?
With that thought, Qiao Jing’s mind was filled with flashbacks of the previous night.
She and her car had tumbled down the steep slope, and it was Zhan Qipei who came to her rescue first.
She took note of this act of kindness.
Feeling some discomfort in her stomach, Qiao Jing struggled to support herself as she got out of bed, but as soon as her feet touched the ground, her knees throbbed with pain, and she started to fall toward the floor.
Her knees were injured too!
Qiao Jing, in a rush to get to the bathroom, hadn’t noticed this.
Just as she was about to make intimate contact with the floor, her waist suddenly tightened, and she was swiftly pulled back and caught in the sturdy embrace of a man.
Without looking, Qiao Jing knew who had helped her.
Qiao Jing, limping, pulled away from Zhan Qipei’s embrace and turned to face the man, who had awoken at some point.
“Thank you.”
Zhan Qipei’s gaze shifted to Qiao Jing’s leg, “You have an injury on your leg.”
His voice was rough from not sleeping well the night before.
Yet, it was precisely this hoarse voice that was inexplicably seductive, stirring the deepest primal desires within one’s heart.
“Oh, I hadn’t noticed just now.” Qiao Jing furrowed her brow and held her stomach, possibly because the night’s IV had left her with a severe distending pain in her lower abdomen.
Zhan Qipei noticed Qiao Jing’s movements and his eyes landed on the girl’s abdomen.
“Need to use the restroom?”
“I can go by myself.” Qiao Jing bit her lip and began to hobble towards the restroom.
“Don’t move, you could aggravate your wound,” Zhan Qipei quickly caught up to her.
Qiao Jing glanced at her own leg, “I know medicine, it’s not that serious.”
“You know medicine? You think your half-baked medical skills suffice? The attending doctor has advised that you’d be best off not leaving the bed today,” Zhan Qipei blocked Qiao Jing’s way as he spoke.
So she’s a half-baked professional?
Qiao Jing couldn’t help but want to chuckle, “Mr. Zhan, when nature calls, one has to answer. Are you proposing to escort me and assist?”
Assist her? Zhan Qipei’s gaze dropped for an instant before he looked away.
Qiao Jing shook her head with a silent laugh, then moved to step around Zhan Qipei.
But just after taking one step, her waist was supported by the man’s hand.
“I’ll help you.”
